Northern Gathering (local news)
Thanks to everyone that braved the snow and joined the Northern Gathering a couple weeks ago.
Moving forwards, it was decided that we must hold an urgent rally in The North to raise awareness about how Storm Shadows are partially made in Bolton. Furthermore, the demo will call for an immediate end to their suffering through a peaceful, negotiated settlement.
Join us from 3pm in St Peter’s Square, Manchester on Saturday 7th December.
Ukraine crisis: we must stop this madness (article)
Sophie Bolt writes on how the use of long-range weapons marks a terrifying escalation as Biden and Starmer ignore the growing calls for peace from ordinary Ukrainians and Russians in favour of more carnage.
Political leaders must pull back from nuclear brink (article)
CND strongly condemns the decisions of US President Biden and British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to allow Ukraine to use their long-range missiles to strike targets inside Russia. Russia has now lowered its threshold for nuclear use, precisely to respond to such attacks by the US-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles. It is very concerning that Russia has retaliated by launching a hypersonic ballistic missile into Southern Ukraine.

More specifically, it navigates nuclear weapons politics through visual narratives, online participatory culture and fragmented senses of humour, underscoring the significance of popular culture as a reflector and producer of the social world.
NUCLEAR TESTING VETERANS DEMAND JUSTICE AFTER THE RELEASE OF GROUNDBREAKING BBC TV DOCUMENTARY: “BRITAIN’S NUCLEAR BOMB SCANDAL: OUR STORY” (article)
Veterans of Britain’s Cold War nuclear bomb experiments (the Vets) today thank the team behind the acclaimed BBC TV film documentary Britain’s Nuclear Bomb Scandal: Our Story (Hardcash Films) for revealing the truth about their plight and the UK government’s 70 year cover up.
The 75-minute documentary – aired at 2100 on 20 November on BBC 2 – stands to be as significant for the Vets as Mr Bates v The Post Office was for postmasters.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Following discussions with other peace activists at the Northern Gathering last weekend, we have agreed to collaborate on a northern rally for the emergency day of action organised by CND & Stop The War.
This rally will happen in Manchester on Saturday 7th December at 3pm in St Peter’s Square. There will also be actions happening across the country, but we really want to encourage northern activists to take part in the Manchester rally because a Bolton facility (MBDA) contributes towards the manufacturing of the Storm Shadow missiles.
