It is no exaggeration to say the world is at its most dangerous for a generation.
The actions of our political leaders do nothing to stem the tide. Rather they boost turmoil and instability. Whether by feeding arms to Ukraine or aiding and abetting Israel, the Western powers are complicit in the rise in conflict around the world.
Israel’s ongoing genocide has destabilised the entire Middle East, this week most notably in Syria where the civil war was reignited. While there is talk of moves towards negotiation in the NATO-Russia proxy war in Ukraine, on the ground the fighting is being escalated. We are now at the point where the use of nuclear weapons in Europe has seriously been discussed, and the presence of North Korean troops in Russia risks drawing the wider world into the conflict.
By ignoring the international arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant (former Israeli defence minister) British and US hypocrisy is exposed and Israel given the cover to continue its genocide in Gaza with impunity. So much for the ‘rules based international order’ they claim to defend.
Now Amnesty International has joined us and many others in confirming that what is happening in Gaza is indeed a genocide; they too call out the US, UK and others for their complicity. Amnesty’s Secretary General said:
“Our damning findings must serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now … All states with influence over Israel, particularly key arms suppliers like the USA and Germany, but also other EU member states, the UK and others, must act now to bring Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza to an immediate end.”
Stop the War is responding to this increasingly dangerous world by campaigning for peace talks and negotiations. Please join us to demand our political leaders stop feeding wars and stop supporting war criminals.
