Improvement notice served after explosive component damaged at nuclear weapon facility

An explosive component was “unintentionally damaged” by workers at the Atomic Weapons Establishment’s (AWE’s) Explosive Technology Centre, leading the nuclear regulator to issue an improvement notice.
The notice was issued under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Sections 2(1) and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Regulation 5(1). AWE Plc has until 20 August 2025 to comply with the notice.
