Holtec has been trying to dump radioactive wastewater into Cape Cod Bay but a new report says the waste would stay in the local environment. In the meantime, Holtec is quietly venting tritium into the air from the closed Pilgrim reactor, writes Linda Pentz Gunter.

Radioactive releases won’t vanish from bay says report

Holtec, the company in charge of decommissioning the Pilgrim, MA reactor it now owns, is appealing a denial by the state to dump almost one million gallons of radioactive wastewater into Cape Cod Bay. But a new report from Woods Hole says the releases would not leave the bay, risking contaminating area shorelines. In the meantime, under the guise of worker warmth and drying plant components, Holtec is quietly evaporating tritium into the air, a move citizens are asking their governor to stop. READ MORE
