New Year message from Liberty

As we enter 2025, we wanted to thank you for supporting Liberty and joining us on our mission to stand up to power and protect human rights for all in the UK.

2024 was a year of change. A General Election marked the end of an era, an era that brought with it fundamental threats to our human rights frameworks. We reached the election with the Human Rights Act, the law that underpins our rights and liberties in this country, intact. We couldn’t have achieved this without your support.  

A new government means new opportunities. But we cannot rest on our laurels. We watched in horror as racist riots tore through our communities last summer. Climate change poses untold risks to our neighbourhoods and livelihoods, both at home and abroad. Global democracy faces existential threats. But with your help, we can stay ready for whatever challenges are thrown at us next.

This year, we’ll be fighting for big solutions to big problems. Across the country, people are having their faces scanned by invasive, unregulated technologies. Protestors are being shut down, silenced and imprisoned. Homeless people are being locked out of public spaces and criminalised for living in poverty. And children are going to school with the police acting as hall monitors. This year, we’ll continue the fight back, and work towards building a country in which everyone’s rights are respected.  

We will provide you with key updates on our campaigns and our Liberty Investigates team’s groundbreaking research. We’ll also share invaluable legal advice on our Advice & Information hub and keep you informed of our legal challenges. We are expecting the judgment in our vital case to defend democracy shortly – showing that 2025 has kicked off where 2024 left…

You will have likely received many emails since the start of the year, asking you to take action, to shop or to donate to a cause that’s important to you. There is nothing that we’re asking of you today. We just want to say thank you for joining us on our mission. Please do look out for our messages in 2025 which will include ways for you to get involved and support Liberty’s work.
