Greetings to all our members, old and new!

For those who missed it, we held a great webinar ‘European Nukes – Time to Go!’ with an excellent line-up of speakers. Which can be seen again here. Please give us a ‘like’ and please do share it around https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PJNh3P1LCI

Watch back Global Women United for Peace against NATO’s webinar discussing the growing NATO presence in Europe and the imposition of nuclear weapons in NATO countries. With guest speakers: • Opening remarks: Ann Wright – Veterans for Peace, US • UK: Angie Zelter – Lakenheath Alliance for Peace • Germany: Angelika Clausen – IPPNW

Other interesting and newsworthy material:

  1. The truth is that NATO now exists to confront the threats created by its continuing existence. (Interesting observations from a Royal Navy Commodore.) https://responsiblestatecraft.org/nato-war-with-russia/

  1. Is Trump setting NATO up for failure? there is a growing consensus that the current 2-percent goal has to be increased. Spending targets are expected to be updated during a leaders’ summit at The Hague in June. (Trump is angling for an almost impossible 5% and would, as Aldous Huxley argued, be ‘an imposition of permanent military servitude upon the masses’.)

  1. On March 19 at 12pm ET, there will be a GWUAN endorsed webinar featuring speakers from a diverse array of countries, including Belarus, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gaza, Lebanon, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Korea, Sudan, and Syria.  This platform not only serves as a means to share stories but also as a call to action for global solidarity and support in ending violence and fostering peace. 1. War Widows – Just one of the desperate outcomes of war. This study concludes that the stark prevalence of mental health issues among Afghan war widows underscores an overlooked humanitarian crisis. The findings call for immediate mental health interventions, tailored to the sociopolitical realities of Afghanistan.https://journals.lww.com/indianjpsychiatry/fulltext/2024/66120/depression_and_anxiety_symptoms_among_afghan_war.7.aspx ( I was hoping to find something decent on the proxy NATO war with Russia, but it was all propaganda)
  1. Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated on January 20 that the Kremlin is willing to negotiate with the United States about the war in Ukraine but indicated that he maintains his demands for Ukraine’s full capitulation. https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-january-20-2025

  1. Finally, we are holding a webinar on March 8th ’NATO not wanted in South America’. We haven’t got a full slate of speakers yet, so please forward any contacts who would be prepared to speak against NATO in their country to [email protected]

Stay Strong!
