Trump’s dangerous pronouncement about taking over Gaza has been met with almost universal condemnation, but rather than row back the president has doubled down.
Israel’s goal over the past 16 months was to make Gaza unliveable – this they have achieved, with the complicity of the US, UK and much of the media. And now Trump has said out loud what many zionists and Israeli politicians have been thinking all along – that Gaza will be redeveloped without Palestinians.
On Thursday, Israel Katz, Israel’s defence minister, instructed the IDF to arrange for the ‘voluntary departure’ of Gaza residents ‘by land, sea and air’. Any attempt to move Gazans outside Gaza will re-ignite regional tensions and threaten the precarious ceasefire. It is possible that this provocation is exactly what Trump and his zionist friends want – giving them the green-light to restart their murderous onslaught in the strip and ‘finish the job’.
Trump’s redevelopment plan is morally abhorrent, a violation of international law and a crime against humanity.
We must do all we can to show our outrage – the march on 15 Feb to the US embassy is more important than ever.
