Since the release of the BBC documentary Britain’s Nuclear Bomb Scandal: Our Story, that delved into the UK’s post-war atomic weapons program and its enduring impact on service personnel and their families.

The Nuclear Veteran Community’s campaign has gained significant momentum. Their work so far alongside the public pressure has forced the Labour Government to announce a review into the missing medical records. Despite this progress, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is still dragging its feet.

The veterans’ legal team set a final deadline of 31 December 2024 for the MoD to engage. That deadline has passed with no response. In January 2025, the veterans’ representatives warned the MoD that without action, they would move forward with litigation. Under pressure, the MoD promised a response by mid-January.

Now, the legal team is preparing formal proceedings. Health assessments are underway to prove that withholding these records is causing ongoing harm. Without access to their own medical history, these veterans are left without answers, without support, and without justice.
