In the space of a week, news broke on a flurry of truly insane nuclear plans, as if the world wasn’t mad enough already, writes Linda Pentz Gunter. There’s a real danger that the US could resume atomic testing under the new Trump administration, warns Karl Grossman.

Israel intends to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities (again). Japan will “maximize” its use of nuclear power and plans to have 30 reactors back running by 2040. A mad scientist thinks we should detonate an 81 gigaton nuclear bomb in the seabed to shatter basalt to enhance carbon sequestration. The US could resume atmospheric atomic testing (see below). And an armed drone hit the destroyed Chornobyl Unit 4 reactor. Could things get any worse? They probably already have. READ MORE
Atomic testing resumption?
Influenced by the Heritage Foundation and its dystopian Project 2025, the Trump administration could authorize the resumption of above-ground atomic testing, already a deadly contributor to environmental contamination and fatal health outcomes. These were foreseen by President John F. Kennedy who warned of “children and grandchildren with cancer in their bones, with leukemia in their blood, or with poison in their lungs.” READ MORE
