The BAE Systems’ shipyard at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria has been at the centre of Britain’s nuclear weapons system for decades. It is building Britain’s next generation of nuclear-armed submarines – the Dreadnought – at an estimated cost of £205 billion. Each of these Dreadnought subs will be able to carry up to 40 nuclear warheads – with just one powerful enough to kill one million people. With nuclear tensions at their highest in years, Barrow would be on the frontline of any nuclear attacks.

Watch back this webinar discussing Barrow’s role in Britain’s nuclear weapons system, how the shipyard fits into the government’s increasingly militaristic policies, and how the British government should instead be investing in sustainable and green jobs.

With guest speakers Phil Webber, Scientists for Global Responsibility; Sam Mason, Convenor, CND Trade Union Advisory Group ; and Philip Gilligan, South Lakeland and Lancaster District CND. Chaired by Sophie Bolt, CND General Secretary.
