Quick Survey - What does "Security" mean for you?

Posted: 9th March 2025

Dear friends of Abingdon Peace Group,
Faringdon Peace Group hosted David Couzens last week. He spent 30 years in the British Army including two tours in Afghanistan, and now
works for Tearfund, a Christian charity which partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries, currently leading Tearfund’s peace building team. Tearfund along with others in the Rethinking Security Network are trying to use the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII and the setting up of the UN to get people to reflect a little more deeply on what security means to them, what the threats to it as they define it are and what they see as the priorities for ensuring it. They want to use this to advocate for a broader perspective on security (human security) as opposed to the dominant and highly militarised ‘defence’ perspective. They are hoping to get at least 1000 people in the UK to complete it and are trying to do the same in a number of countries where Tearfund works to do the same to provide a global picture. The survey is based on one produced by Coventry University in conjunction with Rethinking Security a couple of years back and we are trying to scale this up and take it globally rather than just UK. I would love your help in getting it out to people and in encouraging them to both complete the survey and share it with others. I attach the link to the survey:  https://bit.ly/4jK7Gnd
I have also shared the slides that he used at the talk in case they are interest or use.
Do have a look at the survey, it only takes 5 mins and is thought-provoking!

Peace,
Sally
