Youth Fusion relaunch on UN Day for Disarmament Awareness

Posted: 11th March 2025

UNFOLD ZERO is excited to welcome the relaunch of Youth Fusion, the global youth network for nuclear disarmament, risk reduction, and peace-building originally established in 2019 by Abolition 2000.

Following a flurry of inspiring eventspodcastsarticles and projects between 2019 and 2023, Youth Fusion took a break in 2024 as the original core team members moved on to fulltime career positions or advanced study. A new core team has coalesced and relaunched Youth Fusion on the UN Day for Disarmament and Nonproliferation Awareness, March 5, 2025.

With a renewed core team and many plans ahead, Youth Fusion leaders are “more determined than ever to educate, connect, and empower the next generation of disarmament campaigners. This is just the beginning—together, we will spark conversations, mobilize communities, and drive real change toward a safer, nuclear-free world.”

The first action of the renewed Youth Fusion will be a 2000 candles for nuclear abolition social media action. Everyone (young and young-at-heart) is invited to participate.

Youth Fusion – inspiring intergenerational action

Youth Fusion is a youth-led network for young individuals, youth organizations & youth initiatives in the field of nuclear disarmament, risk-reduction and non-proliferation.

Youth Fusion also highlights the links between disarmament, peace, climate action, public health and sustainable development, and builds connections and cooperation amongst people and organisations working on these inter-related issues.

And Youth Fusion organises forums and events for inter-generational dialogue, so that youth and those more experienced can listen and learn from each other and build cooperation for more effective policy action. (See About Youth Fusion).

2000 Candles for Abolition – social media action

Abolition 2000, the global network for the abolition of nuclear weapons, turns 30 this year. Established at the 1995 Non-Proliferation Treaty Review and Extension Conference, the network is open to any organization or individual who endorses the Abolition 2000 founding statement. Over 2000 organizations have done so.

Abolition 2000 will hold its 30th birthday party in New York during the 2025 NPT Review Conference with an event where 2000 candles will be placed in the shape of the classic peace symbol. Youth Fusion will support this through a global social media campaign where anyone can upload a photo/graphic of themselves with a candle for abolition. Details on how you can join the social media campaign will follow soon. To keep informed, subscribe to the Youth Fusion newsletter. Yours sincerely
