National CND news: email your MP

Ahead of next week’s Spring budget, CND has been working with MPs to secure an Early Day Motion opposing the obscene and dangerous hikes in military spending. Government plans to increase miliary spending up to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, will make the world far more dangerous and push millions more into greater poverty.

MPs across the country need to know that these plans are deeply unpopular – and that the government must change direction. So, we urgently need you to email your MP, calling on them to sign this Early Day Motion and show their opposition to military spending ahead of next week’s budget.

Britain’s nuclear weapons programme – a huge drain on public finances – accounts for 14% of the Ministry of Defence’s budget. Despite the government’s Infrastructure and Projects Authority’s damning report which ranked core parts of Britain’s nuclear weapons programme “unachievable”, the government continues to peddle these immoral weapons of mass destruction as necessary for our security. 

Building a mass public movement against the threat of nuclear weapons can pressure the government to change direction. That’s why we’re asking you to say no to throwing good money after bad. Contact your MP using our lobbying tool here, asking them to back EDM 925. It calls for this hike in military spending to be reversed and “instead redirect funding into public services, international development, and climate action to build a safer, fairer, and more sustainable future for all.”

Israel has resumed its bombing of Gaza, killing at least 400 Palestinians overnight. Join us outside Downing Street to call for Israel to stop bombing Gaza, and for the UK government to stop arming Israel immediately and to push for a permanent ceasefire. Barrow protest – let’s shine the spotlight on Britain’s dangerous, failing nukes
