The Breakthrough Institute’s Ted Nordhaus derailed NRC Commissioner Jeff Baran and viciously attacked - but ultimately failed to block - the NRC commission candidacy of Matthew Marzano, reports Linda Pentz Gunter. He also helps write pro-nuclear legislation on Capitol Hill.

Gutting safety at the NRC

The NRC is too consumed with safety, complain think tank lobbyists like Ted Nordhaus, who fancies himself as kingmaker when it comes to seating - or unseating - NRC commissioners. However, he failed to persuade the US Senate to dismiss the candidacy of Matthew Marzano (pictured) despite a hatchet job campaign that sought to paint the deeply experienced Marzano as unqualified. The NRC is already an industry lapdog, and no friend to this movement, but its stated mission is safety oversight and those who prioritize it are needed to prevent the commission from becoming entirely toothless despite new attempts to gut the agency. READ MORE
