Who has the time to step back and assess all the different ways that the system is duplicitous?
We don’t get to know, as a matter of course, the extremely important details on how the Government is operating in the world and the extent to which the British military is a participant in operations overseas, we have to push for that information.
We work to uncover and expose, not only the way in which the government is operating in the world but also just how opaque & undemocratic the system is.
Ethical Arms?
What the political system works to do is detach cause & effect. It is very convenient for arms to be just another manufactured ‘good’, without connecting our consciousness to the death and destruction they are built for. They won’t put the images of dismembered children in Gaza on arms manufacturers website home pages, but rather they are described as inanimate shiny machines that create jobs and contribute to ‘security’.
How could investing in arms companies be considered ethical? Andrew Feinstein & Jack Cinamon detail how Norway’s sovereign wealth fund holds shares in UK weapons firms that arm Israel, despite the fund’s ethical guidelines. Read the story here.
You would think, given everything we have seen over the past 17 months the government would want to distance themselves from Israeli weapons. John McEvoy however, exclusively reveals how Labour held a secret meeting with a top Israeli arms firm. Read the detail here.
Did you know that the former head of Britain’s armed forces is providing advice to Israeli arms firms? Read this story from our editor, Phil Miller, here.
As the tense negotiations continue towards a Ukrainian peace deal, our Co-Director, Mark Curtis lifts the lid on a story beneath the headlines – how the UK views critical minerals as a government priority and wants to open up Ukraine’s vast resources to British corporations. Check out the story here.
Whilst the news in relation to the airstrikes on Yemen has been dominated by scandal stateside, Iona Craig has written exclusively for Declassified detailing how Britain provided aerial refuelling for US jets during Yemen airstrikes that killed 53 people, including women and children. Did you hear about this in the mainstream media? Read the details here.
Know our history:
25 years ago, the UK government allowed Chile’s former dictator to evade extradition to Spain. Declassified files reveal how the decision was made. Read this story from John McEvoy about how Britain allowed Pinochet to escape justice for atrocities.

Code Pink has launched a new initiative, ‘Bases off Cyprus’, alongside other organisations. And one of the first things they are asking people to do is to sign their petition asking the International Criminal Court to demand the surveillance footage taken by the Royal Air Force in its spy missions over Gaza to ‘aid its case against Israel and to assess whether the intelligence has been used to aid Israel’s systematic targeting of infrastructure in Gaza’.

Be it assessing the extent to which the government are complicit in the atrocities in Gaza, covering the relationship between the government and arms firms, the government’s historic role in allowing a former dictator to evade extradition or even the way in which they have used the security service to spy on workers fighting for better terms and conditions, we at Declassified will continue to expose how the system works.
We cannot thank you enough for your support to help us do that.
