Today is Land Day, which Palestinians observe every year to honour the ongoing legacy of land defenders resisting Israel’s colonial land grabs.
We can honour Palestinian land defenders, past and present, by pushing for an end to British complicity in Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing. Write to Foreign Secretary David Lammy to demand a two-way arms embargo and a ban on trade with Israel.
Write to David LammyThis year’s Land Day coincides with Eid al Fitr. Under better circumstances, this would be a day of celebration for many Palestinians, who might be visiting family and friends, sharing meals and spending time together. But this year’s Land Day, and Eid, come amidst Israel’s horrific genocide and ethnic cleansing, which means celebrations will be muted for many, and the meaning of Land Day is as relevant as ever.
The Palestinian struggle is unified around rootedness in the land: from land defenders in Masafer Yatta, to farmers in the Naqab. From those who use the day to visit the location of their villages destroyed in the Nakba, to those in exile who demand return to their homeland. And of course, the millions in the Gaza Strip who give real meaning to the phrase “existence is resistance”, now more than ever.
Palestinians are resisting Israel’s relentless onslaught across their homeland. We can support them by doing everything we can to end British complicity in genocide.
Write to David LammyIsrael’s genocide in Gaza has killed many tens, if not hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Most of Gaza’s residents are already refugees, displaced from their land by Israel’s previous campaigns of ethnic cleansing. In the West Bank, Israeli forces continue with military invasions, assassinations and land grabs. Meanwhile, Palestinian citizens of Israel confront harassment, violence, and intimidation to repress their solidarity with their siblings elsewhere in Palestine.
We demand the British government ends its complicity in Israel’s settler-colonialism and apartheid.
It must stop arming Israel, and ban all trade with illegal Israeli settlements on stolen land. Write to Foreign Secretary David Lammy now:
