Take action to end British complicity in these illegal practices, including the torture and abuse of Palestinian detainees

Today marks Palestinian Prisoners’ Day – a day to honour the courage of thousands of Palestinians unjustly imprisoned, and to stand in solidarity against the system of mass incarceration Israel uses to repress all Palestinians resisting apartheid.

We’re asking you to take action to end British complicity in these illegal practices, including the torture and abuse of Palestinian detainees.

Since 1967, Israel has detained well over a million Palestinians, or 1 in 5 of all people from the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Every Palestinian family is impacted by Israel’s mass incarceration campaign, which targets adults and children alike.

Thousands of Palestinians are currently held under administrative detention, imprisoned without charge or trial. Children as young as 12 are regularly arrested in night raids, interrogated without legal counsel, and subjected to solitary confinement and physical abuse. Incarcerated Palestinians are routinely subjected to horrific conditions including torture, sexual abuse, and medical neglect. These practices are not isolated incidents, but part of a broader system of repression that seeks to silence Palestinian resistance and maintain Israeli domination over them.

Since October 2023, Israel has massively intensified its illegal incarceration practices in tandem with its genocidal assault against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. Over 14,500 Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank, and Israel has detained more than 1,555 Palestinians from Gaza under its “Unlawful Combatants” law which denies them basic legal rights. Thousands more have been imprisoned in secret military camps and black sites.

Addameer, our Palestinian partner organisation that advocates for prisoners’ rights, has asked us to use this day to raise awareness on social media. You can do this by sharing these on social media.

The British government’s continued political and military support to Israel renders it complicit in these crimes. As we draw inspiration from Palestinians resisting Israel’s brutal occupation, we must take action to pressure our own government to end its complicity in their repression. Please take 2 mins to email David Lammy today.
