US special envoy Steve Witkoff met Putin in Moscow on Friday to present Trump’s final proposals for peace in Ukraine. With hundreds of thousands of lives lost and over three years of war, peace cannot come a moment too soon.
The plan, which unquestionably puts America first, would see Ukraine hand over much of its mineral wealth and resources to the US. It also places a ban on Ukraine joining NATO and includes American recognition of Russia’s control of Crimea. As Andrew Murray explains in his latest article, the war could have ended on similar terms two years ago, saving many lives. Instead Starmer and NATO opposed any moves towards a peaceful resolution.
Clearly it is time for Starmer and his warmongering allies to step aside so the killing can end and peace can finally come to Ukraine.
The genocide in Gaza may have receded from our screens, but the barbarism of Israel goes on, with the implicit support of our own government. Every day there are new atrocities. It is essential we keep up the pressure.
As the Nakba77 demonstration approaches we must do everything we can to ensure the national march is as big as possible. With this in mind we are holding an online rally with our Palestine coalition partners on 1 May at 7pm.
It will be a chance to find out what you can do as activists in the face of Israel’s ongoing massacre. It will provide you with ideas and inspiration on how to take the movement forward as well as how to build for the workplace day of action and the 17 May national demonstration.
The rally will be streamed on the StW YouTube channel so do tune in and do all you can to promote our actions for Palestine. Get organising!
This week we launched a letter writing campaign directed at the head of the Met Police, Sir Mark Rowley, over the draconian restrictions and excessive policing of our protests.
We have postcards with 5 Questions for Mark Rowley for groups to hand out on stalls and at meetings as well as a digital email – so do send your postcard or email Rowley today. And please contact the office if you would like a bundle of postcards sent to you.
No to Austerity – No to War
Welfare not Warfare
Our Welfare not Warfare meetings around the country are proving hugely popular and are continuing apace. The No More Austerity march and rally must be as big as possible, and we ask all our supporters and groups to do what they can to build it - petitions, street stalls, TU resolutions. The arguments cannot be more stark and the stakes could not be higher.
Begin organising now to join the Welfare not Warfare anti-war bloc on 7 June.
Check out our new Welfare not Warfare tote bags in our online shop!
