You will remember that we won our landmark case against the Home Office last May, with the High Court ruling that previous Home Secretary Suella Braverman had acted unlawfully by completely ignoring the will of Parliament when creating new anti-protest laws. But the Court’s ruling was immediately appealed by the Government.
With the new Government elected last Summer, we hoped this appeal would be dropped. However, Labour disappointingly continued the Conservative’s anti-protest legacy by taking us to the Court of Appeal last December.
We have just found out that the judgment will be announced this week.
Need a reminder of the history of this case? Check out our video which summarises the journey of our legal challenge against the Home Secretary.
We want to protect the rule of law and ensure no Government can run rampant over democratic process to pursue its own agenda. Accountability matters.
As always, we have appreciated your support during this campaign. From raising money for the legal fees, to signing petitions, it has been a long journey, and you have been with us every step of the way. Together, we’ve shown the power of standing up for democracy and the right to protest.
No matter what the judgment says, this fight isn’t over – and with your continued support, we’ll keep defending democracy and protecting the right to protest for everyone.
Thank you for standing with us.
