Josep Borrell also criticises EU response to what he calls largest ethnic cleansing operation since second world war
The former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has launched a blistering attack on Israel, accusing its government of committing genocide in Gaza and “carrying out the largest ethnic-cleansing operation since the end of the second world war in order to create a splendid holiday destination”.
Borrell, a former Spanish foreign minister who served as the EU’s top diplomat from 2019 to 2024, and president of the European parliament from 2004 to 2007, also criticised the bloc’s failure to use all the means at its disposal to influence Israel, saying expressions of regret were simply not enough.

Tension prevailed at an event at the 5th Thessaloniki International Book Fair, where the Israeli Embassy was scheduled to hold a discussion on: “Changing Landscapes of Jewish Literature”.
Before the debate started, tension was caused when about 150 people wearing headscarves and Palestinian flags intervened, shouting slogans such as: “Out with the killers” and “Freedom for Palestine”.
As a result, the event was cancelled.

In an interview with Israeli outlet Ynet on Thursday, Moshe Yaalon, who also served as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defence minister between 2013 and 2016, said Israel had abandoned the captives held by Hamas and was carrying out a campaign of “ethnic cleansing” in Gaza.
Yaalon attacked the current military chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, saying he was not stopping “clearly illegal orders” and was ordering “his soldiers to be war criminals”.

Tensions between former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appear to be escalating, according to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom.
Citing sources with sources close to Trump, the report revealed that Trump “is disappointed” with Netanyahu.
“Relations between Prime Minister Netanyahu and the US president have reached a low point with mutual disappointment on both sides,” according to the report.
While previous reports highlighted Netanyahu’s own discontent with Trump, sources now say the feeling is mutual. …
