If you are paying attention to what is happening in the UK and the rest of the world, I am sure you’ll feel a deep sense of unease about how violent, turbulent, and unjust everything is — as I do. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is leading a Labour Government which is aggressively militaristic and is ramping up war rhetoric.
The government’s just-released National Security Strategy 2025 actually states this: ‘We have to actively prepare for the possibility of the UK homeland coming under direct threat, potentially in a wartime scenario’. This is at a time when the US and Israel have attacked Iran and excruciatingly, in Gaza, after almost 21 months of the ongoing genocide, the situation for the people there is of apocalyptic proportions.
With the world being rapidly reshaped before us, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. But we mustn’t allow the brutality of the political and economic system to grind us into ambivalence. An unaccountable system is, after all, what maintains political orthodoxies.
It is why at Declassified we ask vital questions to politicians to expose their decisions and we will keep doing so until we get answers. This month we questioned John Healey, Starmer’s defence secretary, and asked him why he is still sharing intelligence with Israel and sending surveillance flights over Gaza. You can watch that here.
A Declassified reporter in Gaza, a very dangerous place for journalists, explained how eyewitnesses to an Israeli massacre believe British intelligence contributed to the slaughter. This powerful account of the Nuseirat massacre in June last year underlines the importance of pursuing the British government on the details of the surveillance flights over Gaza. Read the harrowing report here.
What is the F-35 Fighter Jet?
You may have heard about F-35 fighter jets in relation to Gaza, but what are they? Have a read of this helpful explainer.
Exclusive
In this exclusive we reveal that parts for these F-35 warplanes were transported via London last month.
Interviews
This month I sat down with Jeremy Corbyn MP who explained his attempt to secure an independent inquiry into UK involvement in Israeli military operations in Gaza and we discussed Israel’s so-called ‘pre-emptive strikes’ on Iran. Watch here.
Mark Curtis interviewed former ambassador Sir Richard Dalton who told Declassified that the US and Israel pose a greater threat to Middle East peace than Iran. You can watch this fascinating interview here.
UK-made munitions containers shipped to Israel
A British company has sent over 1,000 munitions containers to Israel amid the Gaza genocide, raising concerns about UK arms export controls.

Expel Tzipi Hotovely!
The government’s support for Israel has been extraordinary. In this powerful analysis, Jonathan Cook outlines why it is long past time to expel Israeli Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely from London.
Here is the petition to expel the Israel Ambassador which is referenced in the article.
There is an alternative.
If we listened only to politicians and the mainstream media, we would be convinced that there is no alternative to perpetual war, that societies are made more secure through militarism and that economic growth is dependent on subsidies to the arms industry. Kate Hudson explains how another vision is possible through detailed analysis in the Alternative Defence Review. Read about it here.
There are innumerable horrors taking place in the world which are the result of political decisions. We want to continue to shatter the illusions that the political system constructs, providing information that holds decision-makers to account, and that helps change the system. Your support and donations are vital in helping us do this.
Best wishes,
Laura Pidcock
