Consultation on building a new left party

Posted: 17th July 2025

In the past few weeks, you will have seen media speculation that our founder, Jeremy Corbyn is involved in discussions about creating a new political party.  This follows years of debate, discussion and collaboration across our movement in response to the undeniable need for a political alternative to the establishment hegemony that has consistently proven itself to be the antithesis of a society that works for the many, not the few.

We understand that there has been a great deal of excitement and anticipation for this moment and, perhaps at times, some impatience.  But the fact of the matter is that, over the years, we have seen many attempted efforts at building a new party fall by the wayside and dissipate into nothing.

We cannot afford for history to repeat itself.  The challenges we face are far too great and the stakes are far too high to get this wrong.  From millions of people here in Britain languishing in poverty to the genocide in Gaza, the alternative we are creating must be built on the strongest possible foundations.

That is why this party must be, from the start, genuinely democratic and led by the grassroots.

We need your help in shaping the kind of party that you want, a party that can be a genuine and credible alternative to the status quo.

Your contributions will be taken alongside that of campaign groups, community campaigners, trade unionists and independent councillors.

Our new political party will be guided by its members.  As part of this process, the Peace & Justice Project will enter a period of consultation with its supporters to shape various aspects of the new party’s direction and governance.

Below is a survey that will allow you to share your thoughts and ideas for how to best develop our new political party. Please fill in the form by Thursday 31 July so we can ensure they are included.

Together we can build the movement and political party that Britain needs.

In solidarity,

Peace & Justice Project

P.S. The Peace & Justice Project is not funded or backed by the billionaires – we rely on regular donations from supporters just like you. If you can, please consider setting up a regular donation to help us build campaigns for a world of peace and justice for the many.
