Not Green Light for Sizewell C Yet

Despite huge lobbying effort by EDF, seems like no green light for new large nuclear at Sizewell C at the moment. We still have to see what happens with the UK Govt Energy White Paper (which might be published in Dec), the result of the nuclear finance consultation (RAB), and the result of the local site planning enquiry.
That said, there’s £525m towards Rolls Royce nuclear SMR/ANT development – but this was widely trailed and, in nuclear terms, 1/2 billion is nothing exceptional. Also, given this tech is in development and a very long way from deployment, there’s a lot of time to bring our guns to bear.
Plus given the economic and tech advances of wind/solar/storage/DSM/grid – arguments for nuclear SMR/ANT technology will look increasingly barren.
