Recent developments regarding Iran’s nuclear program have drawn attention to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as the legal basis for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran’s nuclear program is one of several prominent issues that will be featured at the next NPT Review Conference in April-May 2026. These conferences normally take place every five years and are often regarded as barometers for the health of the nuclear nonproliferation regime.
