London CND: Hiroshima Day & Nagasaki Day — Reflection photos and report

Report and photos from our annual commemorations

Dear Friend

Earlier this month, we marked the 80th anniversaries of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. Remembering the events that took place on Wednesday, 6, and Saturday, 9 August, we came together to reflect on those tens of thousands who were killed instantly, and in the days, months, and years that followed.

In addition to national and group events across London, as usual, London CND held its annual events.

On Hiroshima Day, we gathered in Tavistock Square Gardens. We heard moving speeches, music and played a part in the planting of a new cherry blossom tree, a symbol of remembrance for generations to come. A special thanks goes to Jessica Freeman and Mark Howell for their invaluable help on the day. You can read our full report on this year’s Hiroshima Day by clicking on this link.

On Nagasaki Day, we supported commemorations at the London Peace Pagoda. We heard poems, prose, and performances against the backdrop of the pagoda.

We’ve also shared highlights from group activities on Instagram here, and a full gallery of photos is available on our website by clicking here.

Thank you to everyone who supported or joined commemorations this year.

In peace,

London CND
