Israel has launched its invasion of Gaza City, forcing thousands of Palestinians from their homes. Meanwhile, the UN has declared that Israel’s blockade on the Gaza Strip has created a famine, threatening the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Whilst Keir Starmer has condemned this latest act of Israel’s genocide, he continues to send arms to Israel and provide military support from British military bases in Cyprus.
On Saturday 6 September we will assemble at Russell Square and march for the 30th time since October 2023 in London, to demand our government stop arming Israel and end all military cooperation now. It is more vital than ever that we demand the government take meaningful action to end Israel’s genocide.
Last Friday Israel launched its threatened invasion of Gaza City with the express aim of colonising the city and driving hundreds of thousands from their homes. Israel’s defence minister has promised to commit urbicide and flatten Gaza City if all Israel’s conditions aren’t met, threatening the lives of all 1 million Palestinians sheltering there.
Israel’s relentless blockade on aid reaching Gaza has simultaneously forced the entire Palestinian population there to the brink of starvation. The UN has officially declared a famine in Northern Gaza, with over half a million Palestinians facing imminent death. The UN has said this will spread by September if aid isn’t allowed in soon, with 640,000 at risk and 132,000 children below the age of five facing acute malnutrition. 313 Palestinians have already died from starvation, including 119 children.
We must demand our government take urgent action to end this genocide. Peter, will you join the march for Palestine in London?
Join the march for Palestine in LondonWhilst it commits genocide in Gaza, Israel has also ramped up its colonisation of the West Bank, approving the construction of 3,400 houses for illegal Israeli settlers. The Israeli government has made it clear that this an explicit attempt to cut Palestinians off from Jerusalem and ensure that the idea of a Palestinian state is ‘erased’.
Despite this our government has still failed to take meaningful action to end its complicity. Whilst it has been forced to condemn Israel’s violence it has failed to end its supplies of F35 parts to Israel or its provision of spy flights for Israel from UK military bases in Cyprus.
We must continue to ramp up the pressure on our government to end all military collaboration with and arms sales to Israel.
Our government is feeling the pressure to end its complicity in Israel’s violence, but we must keep pushing until they take meaningful action and stop arming Israel.
In solidarity
