It’s dirty, dangerous, and expensive.
Investors worldwide are withdrawing from it and putting their money into clean renewables.
But last week the government announced hundreds of millions in additional spending on new nuclear power.
And they will soon decide whether to back a big new nuclear power station at Sizewell in Suffolk, in the face of major local opposition.
More nuclear just isn’t necessary.
We can tackle climate change with fast-developing renewables like offshore wind.
They are cheaper, safer and sustainable.
Write to your MP today to tell them nuclear isn’t the answer.

Thank you for writing to me about nuclear power.
I do understand the concerns you raise, but nuclear will continue to have an important role to play in the UK’s energy future as we transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Electricity will only be generated from the existing nuclear stations as long as it is economically viable and safe to do so. When it ceases to be sustainable, it will need to be decommissioned.
I know nuclear security is a top priority for the UK Government. To satisfy our strong legal, regulatory and national security requirements, which are world-leading, all critical infrastructure investment, including nuclear, is subject to thorough scrutiny. All civil nuclear operators are answerable to our robust and independent regulator, the Office for Nuclear Regulation.
The Prime Minister has included nuclear in his Ten Point Plan to achieve net zero. The Government will support the next generation of nuclear power plants to generate low carbon electricity. £525 million is being invested to help develop large and smaller-scale nuclear plants, and research and develop new advanced modular reactors. I am encouraged that this could create 10,000 green jobs.
I note your concerns about this, but want to emphasise that these technologies will be thoroughly tested and scrutinised. Ultimately, nuclear will play an important role in achieving net zero. I do agree that investing in renewables is essential and must take priority, and I know the Government is also committed to this.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
Very best,
John
