At 8.15am on 6 August 1945, the US dropped the first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. Three days later on 9 August, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. By the end of 1945, over 210,000 people would be killed by either the initial blasts or by radiation. But the effects of the bombing would last for decades and across generations.

Second-generation Hibakusha (survivor) Kyoko Gibson was born in Hiroshima in 1945. Despite being born three years after the bombing, she still suffered from health complications throughout her life. Ahead of the 80th anniversary of these catastrophic bombings, she spoke to CND about those whose lives were taken in an instant and those who suffered for years afterwards. Never again.
