AWE to be renationalised

In a surprise move the UK government has announced that it will take the Atomic Weapons Establishment back into public ownership. It will become an arms-length body, wholly owned by the Ministry of Defence. Read more.

Aldermaston in ‘special measures’ until at least 2022

The Chief Nuclear Inspector’s Report contained bad news for both AWE sites. The organisation has repeatedly failed to provide adequate safety justification documents to the regulator on time. Read more.

Second safety prosecution of AWE in two years

AWE will be prosecuted for an electrical near miss in June 2019. This follows a prosecution in 2018 over a similar incident for which they were fined £1 million. Read more.
