Stop the War Coalition

Newsletter 24/10/25

What is being called the ‘Trump Peace Agreement’ has provided some respite for the people of Gaza, but it isn’t really an agreement and certainly won’t bring lasting peace.

It contains so little detail that it leaves even the most immediate issues unresolved. No one knows who is going to run Gaza, how reconstruction is going to be started or when, if ever, the IDF are going to leave the strip.

It has been honoured mainly in the breach by the Israelis. The IDF has killed well over 100 Palestinians and wounded hundreds more, while only a fraction of available aid has got into the strip since the agreement was announced.

Crucially it doesn’t deal with the basic demands of the Palestinian people, guarantee an end to military intervention or settlements, or a path to statehood.  In so far as it speaks about the future for the Palestinians it is one of continued colonial subjection, with Trump in ultimate charge of Gaza.

For all these reasons, Stop the War and our Palestine Coalition partners are calling a national demonstration on 29 November, International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians. We are asking all our groups to build this far and wide so that it is clear that the movement is not going away.

A Time to Talk

We are also encouraging all our groups to hold meetings and rallies about the situation in the run up to the demonstration, with the suggested title ‘Trump’s Gaza plan and the fight for Palestinian freedom.’ There is a big appetite for serious analysis and discussion of the new situation. Please contact the office for help with speakers. We have had meetings in several new areas recently, so if you think you could put a meeting on where you are, please do get in touch.

No to Militarism – Welfare not Warfare

The risk of wider war grows. Despite absurd claims that Trump is a peace president he is massing the US navy off the Venezuelan coast as part of an offensive for regime change there. The Starmer government is of course fully compliant. Meanwhile, the hawkishness of Starmer and other European leaders over Ukraine is one of the factors blocking peacenegotiations aimed at ending the catastrophic war there.

Stop the War will be supporting the People’s Assembly protest the night before Rachel Reeves’ budget, demanding an end to the drive for more military spending. Join us!

Donate to Our Winter Appeal

We have had an incredibly busy year of campaigning, but our work is far from over. We must continue to stand in solidarity with Palestine, we must continue to demand welfare not warfare, we must ramp up our campaign against the authoritarian attacks on our right to protest – for without maintaining this crucial democratic right we will be unable to stand in solidarity with Palestine and be unable to take a stand for wages not weapons, welfare not warfare.

To do all this we need your help. Our winter appeal is our main fundraising activity of the year. We need to reach our target of £75,000 if we are to continue to build an effective anti-war movement across Britain. Please help!
