Lakenheath/UK Peace camp next April 2026 - US nuclear weapons

Posted: 7th November 2025

Important information from UK

Plans are coming together for the LAP peace camp next April. This year’s April camp over 10 days was a great success, and we need to keep up the pressure and make our voices heard.

US nuclear weapons are there – stored in the base – undemocratically, in secret, under the current US president’s finger to press the button. Increasing numbers of us are not at all happy with that (English understatement). Additionally the base’s use of jet fighters in aiding and abetting a genocide in Gaza means they are complicit in war crimes. We need to be campaigning, spreading information and taking action more visibly than ever before.

The next LAP actions….

November 29th LAP VIGIL12 noon ‘WELFARE not WARFARE

The Lakenheath vigil this month is a special one with the theme of ‘Welfare not Warfare ’ on November 29th from 12 midday. The government’s purchase of hideously expensive F35 A jets is taking much needed funds away from social care and the NHS. It would be fab to get as many people there as possible with your banners etc.  Jo, the organiser, is well aware we’re all super busy with all of our campaigns etc, but for this occasion it would be great to have lots of peace and justice organisations, trade unions etc there with their flags and banners. There will be speakers from trade unions and other organisations to highlight this gross spending on weapons not welfare. Please come along and bring others and make your voice heard.

Any queries please email  [email protected] (please do not reply to this email).

NOVEMBER 13th MANCHESTER public talk 6.30pm at Cross Street Chapel, Cross Street, Manchester M” 1NL. Titled ‘Why US Nukes on UK Soil are Bad for Britain’ with speakers Kate Hudson, Rae Street and Angie Zelter. A video of this April’s LAP peace camp will be shown, time permitting.

APRIL 2026 LAP PEACE CAMP

Below is a general overview of plans for next April. More details and how you can register will follow soon.

Dates:   April 1 – 6 2026

Location: Daytime at the main gate RAF Lakenheath. Overnight in a nearby village hall with a large camping area at the back.

Accommodation:

Camping – bring your own tent, sleep in a marquee, or on the floor of the hall. £5 – £10 a night.

In a bed – book into the local Travelodge at Barton Mills, find a local bnb, or locate local residents offering a bed for the night.

Catering:  Roo and his team will be providing vegan meals with gluten-free options. Donations will be collected at mealtimes.

Transport: A shuttle bus service will give lifts to and from the nearest stations, the base, the viewing area, and the village hall. Volunteers with their own cars will also provide lifts. Thanks to Carol and Nigel for organising all of this.

Workshops: there will be workshops and training at the maingate during the day, and in the evenings at the village hall. Thank you Lesley for coordinating this. If you want to offer a workshop, let her know

NVDA training: training for nonviolent direct action needs to happen before the camp, rather than during it, so that affinity groups can get together and are well prepared in advance. Christina, Marcus and others will provide the training.

Registration form: Ginnie and Pete are devising a peace camp registration form to go to all existing and new LAP subscribers. It will ask for details, dates you plan to come, and accommodation intentions etc.

Banner-making and artwork: Hopefully Zareen will be collecting and encouraging creative people to get creative again!

Music and singing: the more the better! Marie is considering another choir day…

Wellbeing: a wellbeing space will be available at the base and at the hall.

Actions: being there is a vital action in itself, and allsorts of other actions are needed too, big and small, to raise the profile and get much needed publicity. A means of communicating about the actions you want to take will be provided. Coordinated by Angie.

Fund-raising: All this costs money, and while grant applications are being made, donations are still needed. Please encourage your peace / justice organisations to donate on the LAP website…. £30 from 60+ LAP alliance organisations would make a big difference!  https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/donate/

More detailed information will be coming soon.

Love and peace, Ginnie Herbert and the LAP team
