StopReArm Europe - militarisation of schools working group

Dear All,
in Germany the government wants to introduce a military service on a “free will” basis. From 2027 on the government will send a questionnaire to all young people aged 18 years, today 16 years. The boys will be obliged to answer, the girls may answer. The boys have to communicate if they want to be soldier. Additionally all boys will be checked if they would be capable for a military service. The government plans that during the coming years the German army will grow up from now 180.000 soldiers up to 260,000. If this number will not be reached by this process then the service will be mandatory. As of December 5 this year the parliament (Bundestag) will discuss this proposal. It seems to be very probably that the proposal will be adopted. It may be a Cannon Fodder Providing Law.
Many, many people are not amused, especially the youngsters if they are aware of this procedure. The German peace movement now plans a “school strike” as of December 5. In several towns there will be manifestations or even a strike, or flyers will be distributed at the entrances of schools. Additionally several ten thousands had a look on the web-pages for conscientious objection and some thousands have just applied for it. (https://dfg-vk.de/verweigerung/)

Dear all,
It is indeed a very important topic, and we need updated information on how strong the ongoing militarisation of children’s and young people’s minds really are. I do not know of any, as yet, from Norway, but i do know that young people say they are afraid of expressing their views because the codes of what is acceptable are so strong, and i know that there are no systematic counter information/peace education and training in non violent
Conflict resolution and that military “experts” give their milittaristic views 24/7 in all media, also used in school, and that our new Defence strategy plans for heavy recruitement to the military over the coming years.
With some money we could get some research done.

Yes we had already a webinar against the Militarisation of Schools.
In GWUAN we have to have a mail group to gather together those
who were involved.
We have to participate in this wider cooperation struggle.
