President’s Letter – December 2025
Dear NAPF Community,
It has been a busy fall at NAPF, with worldwide advocacy, United Nations (UN) activities, and interviews across the political spectrum to promote peace and disarmament. Please take a moment to check out some of our latest updates below. We are also excited that our new Learning Hub is now ready for anti-nuclear enthusiasts and novices alike. The site grew out of our Nuclear Files archives, created at the dawn of the internet age, and has been updated to reflect new realities and efforts to shed light on this complex topic. We hope you will explore the hub and let us know what you think!
As we’ve kept busy with new and old projects and initiatives, our sights have also been on plans for 2026, which promises to be a big year for disarmament. At the UN, we will contribute to the 11th Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to be held April 27-May 22, and to the First Review Conference of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), to be held November 30-December 4. In addition, we will play a key role in the first-ever International Meeting on Victim Assistance and Environmental Remediation. The meeting is mandated by the UN General Assembly Resolution, which NAPF has supported through valiant efforts of our Director of Policy and Advocacy, Christian Ciobanu, and interns. The meeting promises to bring the plight of affected communities to a wider audience, simultaneously highlighting the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons and the need for their elimination.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year — we are truly grateful. If you haven’t yet had a chance, I hope you’ll consider making a gift of any size. Your contribution helps us begin the coming year with strength and focus, empowering us to continue the work that matters most: educating and advocating for a just and peaceful world, one that is free of nuclear weapons.
I wish you and yours peace and joy this holiday season.
With love and gratitude,
Ivana

At the end of October, Christian Ciobanu presented at the Asia–Pacific regional consultations for NPT States Parties in Viet Nam. The discussions took place in preparation for the 11th NPT Review Conference to be held in 2026.

The UN adopted, for the third year in a row, a resolution advancing global efforts on nuclear justice, led by Kazakhstan and Kiribati. The measure received overwhelming backing, with 170 states voting in favor, while only the nine nuclear-armed states abstained or voted against.
On the margins of the sixth session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction, we collaborated with NYU partners to bring together key regional diplomats, scholars, and civil society.
