We are still the majority, so let’s assert it

With Trump’s latest attack – the criminal onslaught on Venezuela, it feels like we’ve gone over the precipice, into a political climate where no holds are barred. Trump is acting with impunity – international law and all structures of restraint have been trashed.

In their silence and spinelessness, our leaders refuse to take a moral or ethical stand against these crimes and these subversions of legality.

Yes, British policy is a big part of the problem, not the solution. Our economy, industry and society are being militarised on a massive scale; escalating resources are being pumped into weapons and warfare, our public services ever more depleted. Schools, colleges and universities are fodder for recruitment and military propaganda. This government’s answer to every question is ‘prepare for war’.

But that’s not our answer. It can never be the answer. And we are still the majority, so let’s assert it. We must come together to analyse and organise.

This is where we want to be: challenging the war machine and the politics that underpin it, and moving forward, in resisting the drive to war, together.

On Saturday the 31st, I will be in London alongside other change makers, activists, academics and, importantly, hundreds of members of the public, to question how we challenge the war machine.

Join myself, Lowkey, Shahd Abusalama, Hamza Yusuf, Andrew Feinstein, and many more as the Declassified UK team host their first in person summit - Challenging the War Machine.

There’ll be representatives for campaign groups such as CND, Stop the War, CAAT and Forces Watch, as well as media organisations like the Independent Media Association, New Internationalist, The Canary and The Bristol Cable.

I hope you can make it to this important event, tickets start from £10 and are available at secure.declassifieduk.org/events.

In solidarity,

Kate Hudson
