Doomsday clock reset

It has just been announced that scientists have now set the Doomsday Clock at 85 Seconds to Midnight. This means that we are the closest we have ever been to global catastrophe and the extinction of humanity. In making this announcement, scientists have warned that people and planet are have been put at greater risk because of a “full-blown arms race, as evidenced by increasing numbers of nuclear warheads.” We must urgently do everything we can to reverse this nuclear expansion. Nuclear weapons don’t keep us safe. They hold the entire world to ransom. They cannot be part of any civilised so-called defence policy. This is why arms control treaties  like the New START between the two biggest nuclear powers of Russia and the US  are so critical. It is also essential for the UK to start playing a more positive role on the world stage, by taking steps towards nuclear disarmament.
