More than 1,000 councillors have made our Councillor Pledge for Palestine!

Posted: 26th February 2026

This weekend we announced that more than 1,000 councillors have made our Councillor Pledge for Palestine!

The councillors come from across Britain and a wide range of political parties, including roughly 350 from each of Labour and the Greens, more than 100 Liberal Democrats, and hundreds more from the SNP, Plaid Cymru, Your Party, the Conservatives, and independents.

Have your councillors made the pledge?

The pledge commits councillors to take steps to:

  1. Uphold the rights of the Palestinian people
  2. Stand up to Israel for its crimes of genocide and apartheid
  3. Ensure their councils are not complicit, including through divestment of pension funds from complicit companies.

This matters not only because we should expect elected representatives to speak out against Israel’s horrific crimes, but also because local councils are complicit in Israel’s grave violations of international law.

Our research has found that local council administered pension funds invest more than £12 billion in companies enabling Israel’s crimes, including hundreds of millions of pounds invested in the arms companies manufacturing the bombs and bullets used to murder Palestinians.

Sky News reported on the announcement of the councillors who have made the pledge. You can read that here.

If your councillors haven’t already made the pledge, will you write to them to let them know this matters to you?

We will be building on this momentum in the May 2026 local elections as part of the Vote Palestine 2026 coalition – alongside Palestinian Youth Movement Britain, British Palestinian Committee, The Muslim Vote, and Palestinian Forum in Britain – to put Palestine on the agenda during the election campaign. We will be calling on council candidates to pledge for Palestine as well. Look out for updates soon!

As the Palestinian people continue to resist genocide in Gaza and apartheid across historic Palestine, we must continue to stand in solidarity with them, building our campaigns to end British complicity in these grave crimes.

Write to your local councillors today to call on them to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people.

In solidarity,

Dan
