The United States and Israel should Stop Attack on Iran Immediately!

On February 28, the United States, together with Israel, launched a large-scale preemptive strike against Iran, killing its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Moreover, U.S. President Trump is openly calling for the overthrow of Iran’s regime. This is a barbaric act against a sovereign nation that blatantly violates the UN Charter and international law. We condemn it strongly.

The peaceful resolution of international disputes is a principle of the UN Charter. Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and its nuclear development issues should be resolved through diplomatic negotiations.　Preemptive strikes during ongoing negotiations are unacceptable. Inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities and negotiations had been suspended since last June due to unilateral attacks on Iran by Israel and the US.

Preemptive strikes by the US and Israel constitute a grave illegal act that cannot be justified by any excuse. We strongly demand that the Trump administration immediately cease all military attacks against Iran and return to the negotiating table.

The leaders of the UK, France, and Germany have warned Iran to cease its attacks and threatened to work with the US to destroy Iranian missile and drone capabilities. They should change their stance that escalates the situation and strive for a diplomatic solution.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has failed to utter a single word of criticism regarding the clear violation of the UN Charter and international law by the US and Israel in their attack on Iran. Worse still, she has even made statements that seem to “defend” the US and Israeli actions, suggesting they are acting in accordance with the UN Charter.

As the government of the only nation to have suffered atomic bombings in war and possessing Article 9 of its Constitution, Japan must immediately end its subservient attitude toward the US and strongly demand that the US and Israel stop attacks on Iran and pursue a negotiated settlement.
