Faslane protest

CAMPAIGNERS are set to rally at HMNB Clyde to protest against the UK’s

nuclear arsenal. The demonstration, organised by the Scottish Campaign for
Nuclear Disarmament (CND), will be held at Faslane’s north gate on March
14. The Scottish CND told sister paper The National that “nuclear weapons
are a threat to Scotland and the whole world”, saying the presence of the
UK’s nuclear submarines in Scotland is putting “a target on our backs”. The
protest comes after a series of reported nuclear incidents, including a
radioactive leak being discovered at a Highland nuclear site and Loch Long
being contaminated by waste from the Coulport depot, which the Royal Navy
sought to conceal by threatening legal action against the Scottish
Environment Protection Agency to restrict the release of information.
