Dear Peter,
As Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people continues, anti-Palestinian groups in Britain are trying to erase Palestinian history and identity. We must not let them succeed!
UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI), which runs campaigns steeped in anti-Palestinian racism, has an organisational arm that is regulated by the Charity Commission, that is already being investigated. Will you join us in demanding the Commission escalates its case against them?
Write to the charity commissionUKLFI uses empty threats, misinformation and vexatious complaints against public bodies and private organisations in an attempt to erase any traces of Palestinian history or culture. Recently, UKLFI sent threatening letters to the British Museum over its use of the word Palestine.
UKLFI attempted something similar with the Open University which sparked huge public outrage – hundreds of academics and public figures signed an open letter calling on the Open University to make an urgent public retraction of disgraceful commitments it made to UKLFI to stop using the term “ancient Palestine”. The Open University has now done exactly that, which shows that pushing back against UKLFI’s racist campaigns can work.
Our partners the European Legal Support Centre have already filed a landmark complaint against UKLFI to the Solicitors Regulation Authority, which provides evidence of how UKLFI uses the law improperly to threaten civil society groups and for operating as an unregulated legal firm. Separately, the Charity Commission have already opened an active case into UKLFI Charitable Trust. Pressure is mounting – write to the Charity Commission today to demand that they consider this new evidence.
Palestinians are facing real erasure through Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing, and attempts by pro-Israel groups here like UKLFI, as well as the British government, to erase or crack down on Palestinian identity and protest. We must fight back against both – join us in exposing UKLFI’s racist agenda and write to the Charity Commission today.
In solidarity,
Celie,
PSC Campaigns Officer
