It’s day 13 of the illegal US-Israeli war on Iran and the situation is becoming increasingly serious and urgent. Around 2,000 people are said to have been killed since the war started, with Unicef reporting that over 1,100 children have been killed or injured.
Keir Starmer buckled to pressure from Donald Trump to allow British bases to be used for so-called ‘defensive bombing.’ So now, US bombers deployed to RAF Fairford in Gloucester have begun bombing missions over Iran. And B-52 nuclear-capable bombers are lined up on the runway waiting for orders.
Britain is also intensifying its military presence in the region. F-35B aircraft have been sent to Qatar and RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, HMS Dragon has left for the eastern Mediterranean, and now a nuclear-powered Astute submarine is making its way to the Middle East. This brings even more nuclear risks into a region.
The United States and Israel have justified these illegal attacks on Iran with spurious claims that Iran is developing a nuclear bomb. Yet International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors have found no such evidence. Nor has the US administration’s own security services. But Israel does possess up to 200 nuclear warheads. And the US holds over 5,000 nuclear weapons. Their actions are only increasing the risk of nuclear weapons being used in war.
What CND is doing
It’s absolutely critical that we in Britain do everything in our power to stop this conflict from escalating further. We can do this by pressuring the British government to stop its support for the US-Israeli campaign and for Starmer to close down US access to the British bases.
Last Saturday, CND jointly organised a huge demonstration at short notice, with over 30,000 people marching to the US Embassy in London to say ‘no to war on Iran’ and to call out the nuclear hypocrisy behind the attacks.
We need to keep up the pressure, so we will be again taking to the streets for a national day of action on Saturday, 21 March!
We need your help because these protests cost lots of money to organise – from the rally staging and sound systems to placards and transport. Your financial support means we can continue to organise against this illegal aggression and keep up the pressure on the British government to push for a diplomatic solution to this crisis – not a military one that is doomed to create even greater global insecurity.
So please donate what you can to CND today!
