Write to your MP about UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association, Gina Romero

Posted: 16th March 2026

This coming Wednesday we’ve organised a briefing for MPs to hear from the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association, Gina Romero. It will be the day after our joint lobby on the right to protest and we need as many MPs as possible to attend. Will you write to your MP today?

We know that Israel’s project to erase Palestinians, their history, and their culture, extends globally to using its allies to suppress Palestinian voices and to silence those standing in solidarity them. The government’s extreme proposal to give police new powers to effectively ban repeat protests based on their supposed cumulative disruption is the latest example of this in Britain.

Building on a succession of illiberal anti-protest laws, if this proposal passes it will mark a new and major assault on the freedoms of expression, association, and peaceful assembly that underpin protest rights.

The proposal has been added to the Crime and Policing Bill, which is nearing its return to the House of Commons before becoming law. This is a crucial moment to build opposition and pressure MPs to take action – which is why we’ve organised the briefing with the UN Special Rapporteur.

Whether you’re coming to the lobby day or not, we need to make sure every MP gets this separate invite to the important briefing with the UN Special Rapporteur on Wednesday. It will really reinforce to MPs the breadth of concern about the government’s proposal on cumulative disruption.

Despite every attempt to crush us, our movement in solidarity with the Palestinian people continues to grow. We will not be silenced as we continue to target the pillars of British complicity sustaining Israel’s genocide and apartheid. Write to your MP today and ask that they come to the briefing on Wednesday, and if you’re able, I hope to see you in Parliament tomorrow.

In solidarity,
