You’ll have noticed this week The Brief isn’t from Declassified’s chief reporter, John McEvoy, for the first time since it’s creation back in March 2022.
I’m Hamza Yusuf, a regular contributor to Declassified UK and I’m pleased to be writing The Brief each week. I’ll be bringing you clear, concise insight into a story you might have otherwise missed.
If you want short, sharp analysis without the fluff, you’re in the right place.
Thanks for reading,

A major new report titled ‘The Gaza Tribunal’ was published earlier this week, which has called on British government ministers and officials complicit in Israel’s genocide to be investigated by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The comprehensive report is the outcome of a tribunal held by Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace and Justice project and chaired by the former Labour Party leader in September last year.
It came after the Labour Party blocked a bill last year introduced by Corbyn calling for a public inquiry into Britain’s involvement in Gaza.
The Tribunal aimed to “to uncover the full scale of Britain’s complicity in war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.”
In assessing the key questions – what has happened in Gaza, what are Britain’s legal responsibilities, what role Britain has played in Gaza, and whether Britain has fulfilled its legal obligations – the tribunal relied on powerful testimoniesfrom a range of witnesses, survivors, lawyers, human rights experts and journalists – including Declassified UK’s John McEvoy – all compiled into the exhaustive report, authored by Jeremy Corbyn, Dr Shahd Hammouri and Professor Neve Gordon.
Much of the evidence presented was intense. Dr Victoria Rose, an NHS consultant plastic surgeon who went on several medical missions to Gazathroughout the genocide, detailed how she operated on a five-year-old girl who “had her arm blown off”, a seven-year-old girl who “had her knee blown off”and a thirteen-year-old boy who “had his left ankle blown off.”
Palestinian journalist Abubaker Abed, who left Gaza during the genocide, also explained how he’d been subject to coordinated harassment and threatenedby Israel, in their systematic and deliberate targeting of journalists.

Donate £10 a monthAs the report reveals and many of Declassified’s investigations have consistently highlighted, Britain played a key role in Israel’s destruction of Gaza. It supplied weapons and key components for Israel’s military equipment, carried out surveillance flights in aid of Israel and ensured cross-party diplomatic support in Westminster for Israeli actions
The tribunal report concludes unequivocally that “the British government has failed in its fundamental obligation to prevent genocide and has been complicit in atrocity crimes”.
Among calls for a full ICC investigation into Britain’s complicity and participation in genocide, the report also recommends the UK government end all military cooperation with Israel, impose economic sanctions, and conduct investigations into British citizens who participated in Israel’s war crimes.
Jeremy Corbyn said the report will “help cement the government’s legacy as an active participant in one of the greatest crimes of our time”.
Yet strikingly, it’s been totally ignored by the British mainstream media.Aside from a Guardian article, no legacy broadcast or press outlet has engaged with it, despite the seriousness of the evidence it presents.
That juxtaposition perhaps illustrates why these inquiries matter. As the scale of Britain’s foreign policy involvement in the horrors of Gaza continues to be concealed from the public, the demand for transparency only increases.
