Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

Over half a million people took to the streets of London on Saturday in the biggest ever demonstration against the far right in Britain. As part of the Palestine Coalition, CND helped organise a 30,000-strong feeder march which was met by huge cheers as it joined the main protest at Hyde Park Corner.

Speaking ahead of the march, CND General Secretary Sophie Bolt explained why CND is part of the Together Alliance. Uniting against the far right is critical to halt the growth of war and the nuclear threats we face. Far right figures like Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson are cheerleaders for Donald Trump’s global wars. They whip up racism to dehumanise whole populations and justify illegal wars like Iraq and now the horrific war unfolding in Iran. You can watch her speech on Facebook and CND is proud to be part of the Together Alliance and we will continue to challenge the far right’s rise.

RAF Lakenheath peace camp starts this week!

The
international peace camp at RAF Lakenheath returns this week and will run from 1-6 April. There is now overwhelming evidence that deadly US nuclear weapons are stationed here. A major demonstration and blockade of the main base will take place on Saturday 4 April with coaches coming from LondonManchester, Yorkshire, the West Midlands, Oxford, and Norwich. Book your seats Book your seat from London to Lakenheath on 4 April

It is vital that we keep the pressure up on this government. Over 60% of the population oppose these US nuclear weapons. With the reckless leadership of Donald Trump, they put us on the frontline of Trump’s wars. Both RAF Lakenheath and nearby RAF Mildenhall have been heavily involved in the ongoing illegal attacks of Iran. F-35 fighter-bombers have been transiting through Lakenheath to US bases in Jordan since January.

According to Lakenheath Alliance for Peace who have been monitoring the activities of the bases, approximately 40 different MC-130J tanker aircraft have been spotted at Mildenhall since the attacks started. These tankers have been supporting the 23 heavy bombers that have now been deployed to RAF Fairford in Gloucester, which are running daily bombing missions over Iran.

By allowing the US to use British bases, Keir Starmer is actively supporting Trump and Netanyahu’s illegal war which is leading us into a global crisis. Join us in calling on the government to kick out Trump’s nukes from Britain and shut down the US bases for good!

With nuclear weapons states modernising and expanding their arsenals whilst global arms control is collapsing – a coordinated global movement for nuclear disarmament has never been more urgent.

This side event brings together leading voices from parliament, civil society, and science to expose the nuclear dangers as well as the nuclear hypocrisy at the heart of the system and to demand action on disarmament.
