This weekend saw peace protestors from across the country take part in incredible actions at RAF Lakenheath, reflecting the scale of anger against Britain’s military involvement in the US-Israeli illegal war on Iran. 

CND supporters joined hundreds taking part in a blockade that closed the base for two hours on Saturday. This was followed by more actions on Sunday and a daring piece of non-violent direct action in the early hours of Monday morning, involving activists blocking the base again by ‘locking on’ to a huge CND symbol and a car.

These protests have taken on even greater importance given Trump’s threats to bomb Iran into the ‘Stone Age’, culminating in a chilling, veiled threat on social media to use nuclear weapons to kill ‘a whole civilisation’. Whilst Starmer argues he’s keeping Britain out of this war, the facts are clear. British bases like Lakenheath, Fairford and Mildenhall are central to Trump’s illegal military operation that is carrying out war crimes against Iran every day. 

And, with overwhelming evidence that US nuclear weapons are now stationed at RAF Lakenheath, what guarantees does Starmer have that F35As at the base aren’t carrying these lethal weapons when they fly out to US bases in Jordan and Qatar? It’s absolutely clear that Keir Starmer has to pull out of this war and end all military cooperation with the US.

If, in the terrible event that Trump does carry out his threats, CND and Stop the War are calling on all supporters in London to join an emergency demonstration in Downing Street – and for groups to organise actions in their town centres. Details will follow.

The very clear message about why we need to kick out deadly US nuclear weapons was seen by thousands, beginning conversations about how local communities can get involved in the campaign.
