Over the past months the government has been pushing forward plans, through a clause in the Crime and Policing Bill, to give police new powers to effectively ban repeat protests. The bill is scheduled to be debated in Parliament this coming Tuesday, 14 April.
We must demand MPs oppose this clause – will you write to yours today?Write to your MPAs Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people continues under the shadow of the illegal US-Israel strikes on Iran and Lebanon, the British government is escalating attempts to repress our rights. And we know why – in order to distract from its complicity in Israel’s atrocities, and to try to keep us from protesting.
The government has been trying to railroad through its extreme proposal to attack our protest rights. After months of debate in the Lords, the Bill is now returning to the House of Commons on Tuesday 14 April.
But after attending our briefings and hearing from their constituents, some MPs are moving to oppose the dangerous ‘cumulative disruption’ clause.
Andy McDonald MP has tabled a motion to oppose it, but we need as many MPs as possible to support his motion to push the clause to a vote – will you write to yours today?Write to your MPTo coincide with a potential vote, we are also calling a demonstration on Tuesday 14 April at 6PM at Old Palace Yard, outside Parliament. Join us to tell the government loud and clear: we will never be silenced in our calls for freedom and justice for Palestine.
Over 45 civil society organisations have signed our statement to oppose the proposal, adding to the over 100 lawyers and legal experts and over 100 Parliamentarians demanding the government withdraws it. We brought many of those organisations together again for a mass lobby of Parliament, which hundreds of PSC members and supporters joined. But we must ramp up the pressure – will you join us outside Parliament on Tuesday evening?Join the demonstrationWe know that this is all part of a broader project to delegitimise the solidarity movement in Britain as a way of further isolating the Palestinian people. But it will not work.
Write to your MP today, and if you can, join us on Tuesday 14 April at 6PM at Old Palace Yard, outside Parliament.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
In solidarity,
Celie
