Ask your MP to sign: Palestine won't be pushed out by Tommy Robinson

Stop the War Coalition

Ask your MP to sign:
Palestine won’t be pushed out by Tommy Robinson

Anti-war MPs are turning up the heat

Last night, John McDonnell MP tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament (EDM 3084) calling on the government to reverse the Metropolitan Police decision to refuse the Palestine movement’s right to march in central London for Nakba day – while giving key areas of central London to far-right leader Tommy Robinson and his supporters.

This follows an open letter signed by 34 MPs covered in the Guardian.

Robinson is well known for his fascist beliefs and has previously abused and attacked Palestine demonstrations.

Scandalously, the Met have allowed Tommy Robinson the whole of Whitehall, Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square and refused us our planned route, which would have taken us to Whitehall – even though Robinson only posted his intention to hold his rally in that location on social media some time after we officially notified the police of our plans on 18 December last year.

How to take action:

Ask your MP to sign the EDM

Dear __MP,

I am writing as a local constituent to ask if you would kindly add your name to EDM 3084 ‘Palestinian Nakba commemoration march’.

The EDM notes that:

  • Every year the Palestine Coalition organises a march in London on the anniversary of the Nakba and that this year the march falls on Saturday 16 May;
  • expresses its strong concern that the Metropolitan Police has refused the Palestine movement its preferred route for the commemorative march but have instead allocated, on the same day, London’s political centre, including the whole of Whitehall, Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square, to Tommy Robinson’s far-right protest…
  • further notes the Palestine marches have been peaceful, while protests backed by Tommy Robinson have ended in up in violent attacks on the Palestine movement and on the Metropolitan Police
  • ...and therefore urges the Metropolitan Police to review this decision.

All citizens should have the right to protest. This cannot mean handing any one group a political veto over whether others can effectively exercise their rights too, especially when that group has demonstrated its racist and violent tendencies.

Please add your name to the EDM by contacting the tabler of the motion, John McDonnell MP.

Yours sincerely,
