Morning all,
Sorry the roundups have been sporadic over the past week, have been busy organising press coverage for the TPNW coming into force today.
The main piece of news today–in case you haven’t seen yet–is the new polling that we’ve done with Survation, showing that 59% of the UK public want the British government to sign the TPNW, and that 77% of the public support a ‘total global ban on nuclear weapons’. So far, we’ve got good coverage in The Guardian and The National.
Our full press release, with quotes from Kate, Jeremy Corbyn, and Kirsten Oswald, is up on the website here. Kate has a piece up at Tribune, and there’s a nice piece at The Guardian about how Pacific states have led the nuclear ban charge.
A couple of other pieces on the TPNW: this news piece in The Washington Post, and a good opinion piece at the European Leadership Network on why NATO states shouldn’t dismiss the TPNW.
The other main, obvious piece of news is that Biden is seeking a 5 year extension to New START: report at Reuters.
Let me know if you see any other press coverage of our polling or the TPNW!
Sadly, this is my last day working at CND, as I’m starting a new job next week at the University and College Union (UCU). I’ve had a great time working here, and have enjoyed doing the roundups–I hope they’ve been useful. My replacement will be starting in a few weeks, I think, so they will resume then.
All best wishes,
Ed
