Candidate Pledge for Palestine

Posted: 6th May 2026

In just a few days, on Thursday 7th May, voters across England will go to the polls, electing councillors from Plymouth on the south-west coast, to Tyneside in the north-east.

Ahead of the elections, we launched the Candidate Pledge for Palestine, asking all council candidates – from all political parties and none – to make a commitment to advocate for Palestine if they are elected.

More than 2,000 candidates have so far made the pledge, coming from across the political spectrum, including Green, Labour, independent, local party, Liberal Democrat and Conservative candidates.

While Palestine might seem far removed from local government, the truth is councils are deeply complicit in Israel’s genocide and apartheid against Palestinians.

Our research has found that pension funds administered by local councils invest more than £12 billion in companies enabling Israel’s crimes, including hundreds of millions invested in the arms companies that manufacture the bombs and bullets used to murder Palestinians.

That’s why our campaigning is so important. It has already led to more than 30 councils supporting divestment from companies complicit in Israel’s crimes, but we can’t stop there.

To build on this, in these elections we endorsed Vote Palestine 2026, alongside our partners the Palestinian Youth Movement Britain, the British Palestinian Committee, the Palestinian Forum in Britain, and The Muslim Vote, with the aim of raising the importance of Palestine at the ballot box.

They are using a range of tactics, including asking supporters to make the People’s Pledge: a commitment to only vote for candidates who have a clear stand for Palestine.

So long as the Palestinian people are forced to resist their oppression, we must stand in solidarity with them, sending a clear message to politicians: If you want our support, stand up for Palestine.

In solidarity,
