Nuclear power is not needed and in Scotland, at least, a moratorium against new nuclear plants remains intact after a big election victory last week by the Scottish National Party, which supports a nuclear-free Scotland.

Polls show that Scots don’t want nuclear power and, for now, they won’t be developing it. Instead, writes George Baxter, the country has a chance to “get on with building a country that is a renewable energy powerhouse so that future generations can look back and thank us for choosing a green, clean and sustainable energy route.” The eye-watering costs of current UK nuclear projects could instead pay to “install a 5kWh battery in every one of the 28 million homes in Britain, and leave £44bn for other things.” he writes.READ MORE
