Will you take 2 minutes to email your MP? We need your support for an Early Day Motion (EDM), newly tabled by Iqbal Mohamed MP, marking 78 years since the start of the Nakba and calling for sanctions against Israel.
Yesterday parliament re-opened with the King’s Speech, where the government outlined its priorities for the upcoming parliamentary session. The government states it intends to promote peace in the middle east, but its track record is one of supporting genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation.
This must change.
In building pressure for that change, we’ve worked with a cross-party group of MPs to table an Early Day Motion marking 78 years of the ongoing Nakba against Palestinians.
The EDM acknowledges the more than 750,000 Palestinians who were ethnically cleansed from their homes in 1948 by Israeli forces, but also that the Nakba – meaning catastrophe in Arabic – is an ongoing process of dispossession, displacement, and oppression affecting Palestinians across all of historic Palestine and the Palestinian diaspora to this day. Crucially, it calls on the government to end its complicity in these crimes by implementing sanctions against Israel.
Please help put pressure on your MP to support this call for sanctions by sending an email today. MPs pay attention when their constituents speak out, and every email makes a difference.
Peter, we take inspiration from the decades of Palestinian resistance and Sumud. Join us in demanding our politicians take action for a free Palestine.
In solidarity,
James
